Barnard Zine Collection Field Trip!

January 14, 2013 § Leave a comment

I went to New York City last week to visit friends and do some great library field trips. One of them was to finally see the Barnard College Zine Collection.

My friend Jenna Freedman is the Zine Librarian (as well as the Director of Research & Instruction and Personal Librarian for the Microscopium Constellation and Women’s Studies – she’s no slacker.) Jenna’s also a zine author. Jenna and Elvis Bakaitis, zine collection intern and author of the comics zine about U.S. lesbian history Homos in Herstory, which we have and will be cataloging soon, were lovely hosts. See our interview with Elvis here.

Can you spot Elvis in this pic?:

A number of Pittsburgh zines are in the collection!

I had a great time seeing the collection and doing research on zines about Muslim culture, which is a focus for programming, book lists and displays at Carnegie Library – Main, Oakland this year.

Thanks Jenna and Elvis!
